What Sails Foundation covers

Is Sails good for speaking and listening?

Sails is a highly visual series. The pictures add lots of additional interest and extend the story beyond the words. That means that there's lots to talk about in each book. There is a dedicated speaking and listening spread towards the end of each book as well as a series of pictures without words, specially designed to bring out imaginative thinking in your pupils.

How does Sails help teach high frequency words?

Sails is structured into sets of four books. Each set of four concentrates on one main high frequency word, ensuring plenty of consolidation of that word. Additionally, most books contain several other high frequency words as well, meaning that, even though Sails in only Pink level, the majority of NLS high frequency words are covered. There is also a high frequency word check page for extra practice in every book.

What support do the teaching notes provide?

The teaching notes at the back of every book, provide ideas for prompting speaking and listening, advice on reading the text with the children, short follow-up activities, and much more..... They can be used by teachers, teaching assistants and parents.
