Rigby Star Guided Pupil Activity Software Technical Product FAQs

"Error: Creating game cache file. Creation failure"

Symptom(s):

When trying to run a game or activity the below error keeps appearing.

"Error: Creating game cache file. Creation failure. Please ensure the software is installed correctly"

Cause:

This is caused by a permissions issue with a 'tempcache' folder on the client machines.

Resolution:

All users must have full control permissions to the 'tempcache' folder. If the software has been installed to the default location this folder can be found at:

  • C:\Program Files\Rigby\Star Disc 1

If this folder is missing then simply create a new folder within the Star directory and call it 'tempcache' then apply the full control permissions to all the users.

"Error: Script Error"

Symptom(s):

When trying to log in to Rigby Star Pupil Activity Software as a teacher the below error keeps appearing.

"Error: Script Error"

Cause:

There are may reasons as to why script errors appear, but the main reason is due to a permission settings on the workstations, which are using the software. Please find below the different reasons and the possible resolutions.

Resolution:

The three main reasons to why script errors appears are detailed below along with a resolution.

If the software has been installed on a server the folders that are being referred to will be found here, otherwise if a standalone install has been performed these folders will be on the workstation.

1. In order for teachers and pupils to use the software they will need full control permissions set to the Network Content folder and any sub folders within it.

If the software has been installed to the default location this folder can be found at:

  • C:\Program Files\Rigby\Star Disc 1

2. Please check for a text file called 'School' as this could have become corrupt and will need to be deleted.

Note: If there is already pupil data, deleting the corrupt text file will also delete any pupils records and data saved.

If the software has been installed to the default location the corrupt text file 'School' can be found at:

  • C:\Program Files\Rigby\Star Disc 1\netWorkContent

Please delete the text file called 'School' from this location.

3. Script errors will appear if the workstations, which are running the software do not meet the minimum requirements. This is mainly the amount of memory being used.

"Error: Setup caused an invalid page fault in module DIRAPI.DLL"

Symptom(s):

When trying to launch the Rigby Star Pupil Software the below error appears.

"Error: Setup caused an invalid page fault in module DIRAPI.DLL"

Cause:

There are two possible causes to this problem.

1. The software uses Macormedia Shockwave and Flash Player to perform certain tasks, one of the Shockwave/Flash files may have become corrupt or is missing. The file is called 'DIRAPI.dll'.

2. The workstations display settings has been changed to 256 colours. This is below the minimum requirements and the software will not run correctly.

Resolution:

Please find below the resolution to the two possible causes stated above.

1. To fix the problem with the corrupt/missing 'DIRAPI.dll' file, please firstly try to un-install Rigby Star Pupil Software through the Add/Remove Programs list. Once removed and re-install the software. If the 'DIRAPI.dll' was missing this will re-install the file.

Or if this fails to rectify the problem a re-install of Macromedia Shockwave and Flash Player is needed. A free download of the software can be found on the Macromedia web site. Please click on the links below.

Macromedia Shockwave - http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/

Macromedia Flash Player - http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

2. To run the software the display settings must be set to 16 bit (high colour), as stated in the minimum requirements. Please change the display settings back to 16 bit colour (high colour).

"Error: Type 2"

Symptom(s):

MAC users only:

When trying to add pupils within the allocations and records section as a teacher the below error keeps appearing.

"Error: Type 2"

Cause:

This error occurs due to a corrupt install of the Rigby Star Pupil Activity Software. During the installation process it has failed to copy across a folder called 'Pupils'. Therefore when pupils data is being added, the software is trying to write it to the 'Pupils' folder. As this folder is missing an error will appear.

Resolution:

There has been a corrupt install of the software and either a folder is missing or a text file has become corrupt. Please check that a folder called 'Pupils' has been created, if the software has been installed to the default location this folder can be found at:

  • C:\Program Files\Rigby\Star Disc 1\netWorkContent

If this folder is missing from within the Network Content folder please create a new folder called 'Pupils'. However if this folder is there, it may be that a text file called 'School' has become corrupt and will need to be deleted.

Note: If there is already pupil data saved, deleting the corrupt text file will also delete any pupils records and data.

If the software has been installed to the default location the corrupt text file 'School' can be found at:

  • C:\Program Files\Rigby\Star Disc 1\netWorkContent

Please delete the text file called 'School' from this location.

Screen goes black and freezes?

Symptom(s):

Loading and then quitting an activity causes the screen to go black and hangs. Pressing 'Esc' fails to work and now the Rigby Star Pupil Software screen has disappeared?

Cause:

This is caused by the Rigby Star Pupil Software trying to refresh the display repeatedly and very quickly, and running out of memory in the process. This is also happening because the software is trying to access certain text files.

Resolution:

Try to avoid pressing the 'back arrow' to soon after the Rigby Star Pupil Software has loaded, or while it is loading. This is what causes the software to show a black screen. Please also create a class and add some pupils, this will prevent the software from hanging.
