If you have multiple CDs from New Star Science Software installed on your network, the client installer package needs to be allocated only once to each client machine - each client will then be able to access all New Star Science Software content you have installed on the network, providing it has all been installed to the same network location.
Standard Network Install:
If you wish to install more than one CD in the series for the New Star Science Software, please ensure the same installation type and location are selected.
Part 1: Content Install
1. Start the computer, and ensure that no other software is running.
2. Insert the New Star Science CD into the CD-ROM drive.
3. The installation sequence should start automatically – follow the on-screen instructions.
If the sequence does not start automatically:
-
Double-click on the 'My Computer' icon on the Windows desktop, then right-click on the CD-ROM drive icon and select 'Open'.
-
Double-click on the file 'setup.exe' and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: If you want to install a multi-user/network copy of the software, you will be asked to insert a serial code. You will need to buy a multi-user/network licence which includes this code. See your original order form, or call our helpline on 01865 888005.
4. You will be given three options for your installation:
(a) Single user / minimum install
(b) Multi-user / full install (local)
(c) Multi-user / full install (network)
(a) Single user / minimum install:
This installs just essential files on your PC; the CD must be in the drive to use the software.
1. You will be asked to select a folder in which to install the software. We recommend that you use the default location that appears in the box.
2. When you accept the licence agreement, the software will automatically install.
(b) Multi-user / full install (local):
This installs all the files from the CD onto your local hard drive.
1. You will be asked to select a folder in which to install the software. We recommend that you use the default location that appears in the box.
2. You will need to insert your serial code (see your multi-user/network licence).
3. When you accept the licence agreement, the software will automatically install.
(c) Multi-user / full install (network):
This installs all the files from the CD onto your network.
5. You will be asked to select a folder in which to install the software. You will need to change the default location that appears in the box and instead choose a drive on your network (e.g. P:\). Please make a note of the location you choose.
6. The content will automatically install to the network.
Part 1: Client Install
1. You then need to install shortcuts to the networked content on each client machine from which you want to run the software.
2. At each client machine use Windows Explorer to find the location on the network where the software is installed.
3. Double-click on the 'client install' file and follow the on-screen instructions. This will install shortcuts to the networked New Star Science content files.
4. On each subsequent client machine, browse the network to find the same 'client install' file. Double-click this file to install the shortcuts to the networked content on the client machine.
