1. Firstly please check the colour depth and screen resolution. As stated in the minimum requirements a colour depth of 256 colours and a screen resolution of 800x600 is required in order for the software to run correctly.
2. The workstation could be conflicting with the Macromedia Shockwave flies that have been stored on the workstation. There are 2 .dll files that if they appear outside of the Macromed folder structure this will cause the above error.
Please perform two searches on the workstations C:\ Drive for the following files.
After performing the search on the above files and they appear in different folders than stated below then these files can be deleted. DO NOT delete these files if the folder location is the same as below (see screen shot).
-
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10
-
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 8
3a. Check the users access rights to the Windows Temp directory (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP), please ensure all users who intend to use the software have full control to this folder.
3b. Please also delete the contents of the Temp directory removing all temporary files stored allowing for more free space.

"Error: Game Path not found"
Symptom(s):
Multi user licence only:
When trying to launch the New Heinemann Maths Pupil Activity Software the below error message appears?
"Error: Game path not found"
Cause:
This is mainly caused by treating a standalone workstation as a server/client when installing the software. The multi user licence of the New Heinemann Maths Pupil Activity Software is installed in two parts. Both Part 1 and Part 2 have the same default install path of:
-
C:\Program Files\Heinemann.
If the software is being installed onto a standalone workstation the two parts cannot be installed to the same location.
Resolution:
When installing the multi user licence to a standalone workstation, please specify a different install path for Part 2 of the installation.
In order to rectify this problem unfortunately the software will need to be completely uninstalled. This can be done from the add/remove programs list. Please remove the entry:
-
NHM Pupil Activity Software - Year 1 (Multi user)
Now the software can be reinstalled. But please ensure that Part 1 and Part 2 are installed to two different locations.
Example:
-
Install Part 1 to the default location of C:\Program Files\Heinemann.
-
Create a new folder within C:\Program Files\Heinemann called 'Heinemann Client'.
-
Install Part 2 to C:\Program Files\Heinemann\Heinemann Client.

"Error: Lookup File"
Symptom(s):
RM 2.4 Network users only:
When a pupil tries to login to the software by selecting their name from the list the below error message appears.
"Error: Lookup File"
Cause:
This error only effects RM 2.4 Network users. It is caused by during the installation of the New Heinemann Maths Pupil Activity Software is creates to empty folder directories on to the local machine to where the software is to be used. When the RM system takes the 'snapshot' it does not copy these empty folders to the package.
Resolution:
To resolve this simply add and save a text file in each of the folders stated below on the local machine, before taking the snapshot. The RM System will now see the folders because they are no longer empty. Then take the 'snapshot' again and a package will have now been created containing all the necessary files and folders to run NHM.
The folders are detailed below:
-
C:\Program Files\Heinemann\NHM 3 Pupil\pupils
-
C:\Program Files\Heinemann\NHM 3 Pupil\tempCache

"Error: Pupil name or friendly name already exists"
Symptom(s):
When trying to create a pupil the below message keeps appearing.
"Pupil name or friendly name already exists"
Cause:
When a teacher creates 2 pupils with the same first name, the software recognises the name entered and prompts the teacher by showing the above message. The friendly name is set as a default to the pupils first name, which can be changed if required at the time of adding the pupils details.
Resolution:
As the software keeps a database record of the pupils progress, unfortunately the same name cannot be entered in more than once. Therefore the best method is to add the first letter of the pupil's surname to the friendly name field.
Example:
Pupil 1: John A
Pupil 2: John B

"Error: Script Error"
Symptom(s):
When trying to log in to New Heinemann Maths Pupil Activity Software as a teacher the below error keeps appearing.
"Error: Script Error"
Cause:
There are may reasons as to why script errors appear, but the main reason is due to a permission settings on the workstations, which are using the software. Please find below the different reasons and the possible resolutions.
Resolution:
The three main reasons to why script errors appears are detailed below along with a resolution. If the software has been installed on a server the folders that are being referred to will be found here, otherwise if a standalone install has been performed these folders will be on the workstation.
1. In order for teachers and pupils to use the software they will need full control permissions set to the Network Content folder and any sub folders within it.
If the software has been installed to the default location this folder can be found at:
-
C:\Program Files\Heinemann\NHM Pupil 1
2. Please check for a text file called 'School' as this could have become corrupt and will need to be deleted.
Note: If there is already pupil data, deleting the corrupt text file will also delete any pupils records and data saved.
If the software has been installed to the default location the corrupt text file 'School' can be found at:
-
C:\Program Files\Heinemann\NHM Pupil 1\netWorkContent
Please delete the text file called 'School' from this location.
3. Script errors will appear if the workstations, which are running the software do not meet the minimum requirements. This is mainly the amount of memory being used.

No data is being saved when classes, groups and pupils are added?
Symptom(s):
Windows 2003 Server users only:
When classes, groups and pupils are created no data is being saved?
Cause:
This is due to the client install folder (shared folder on the server) only having read only permissions set to it during the installation. Therefore the client install performed on the workstations will fail to create a register and no data can be saved as there is no file system to save them to.
Resolution:
To resolve this the client install folders (shared folder on the server) permissions will need to be changed to full control, then the client install will need to un-installed from off the workstations then re-installed.

Sound problems on the Quicktour?
Symptom(s):
Windows NT users only:
No sound is heard when playing the Quicktour. During the running of the quick tour if PAUSE is clicked followed by PLAY, the audio does not resume. On opening the quick tour from the Home screen the audio does not always begin automatically.
Cause:
This issue only effects Windows NT users. The sound within the flash movies used in the Quicktour is completely under the control of the flash player. The only control the program exerts is to stop and start the flash animation. Windows NT does not cope with multimedia well and is known for causing sound related issues.
Resolution:
To resume the audio you need to click NEXT or BACK to move to a different Quicktour screen, then click NEXT or BACK again to return to your original screen. Ensure you have the latest service pack and directX installed on your system.

Text is not being displayed correctly?
Symptom(s):
Whilst logged into the workstation as a teacher/pupil, the text within the New Heinemann Maths Pupil Software is not being displayed correctly.
Cause:
This is due to a permission issue with the teacher and pupils account. If there is a managed network in use within the school E.g. RM (Research Machines) Community Connect 3. This will also cause the text not to display correctly.
Resolution:
From the client machines, please amend the teachers and pupils accounts to have at least read/write permissions to the following location:
