Important:

Even though the software can be purchased as a Multi-user, this software cannot be installed over a network. It is intended that this software is installed on each client machine and just the 'Saved Activity' files are stored on the server. Installation of the system files to a server is not necessary and this method is not suitable for NT4 servers.

The 'Saved Activities folder is where all the screen shots of the Software activities will automatically be saved when they are played by pupils. Please make a note of where you install this folder so that you can remember it for future use.

PC Network Install:

Option 1: Full Install (Local)

The 'Saved Activities' folder location cannot be changed and will automatically be installed to the same location as the software files (Default location: C:\Program Files\Abacus Evolve Pupils)

This installs all the files from the CD onto your local hard drive.

1. Start the computer, and ensure that no other software is running.

2. Insert the Solve the Problem CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3. The installation sequence should start automatically – follow the on-screen instructions.
If the sequence does not start automatically:

  • Double-click on the 'My Computer' icon on the Windows desktop, then right-click on the CD-ROM drive icon and select 'Open'.
  • Double-click on the file 'setup.exe' and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Choose the installation type for your Solve the Problem CD. You will be given three options for installation of the content files. In this case choose 'Full install (local) / multi-user'.

5. Insert your serial code (see your multi-user licence).

6. You must accept the licence agreement before you can proceed any further.

7. Select a folder in which to install the software. We recommend that you use the default location that appears in the box. (C:\Program Files\Abacus Evolve Pupils)

8. Click 'Install' to install the software.

Option 2: Full Install (Network)

The 'Saved Activities' folder location can be changed, this can be any network location where teachers have the correct permissions too. If multiple years of the software are being installed, please ensure the same install location is chosen.

1. Start the client machine, and ensure that no other software is running.

2. Insert the Solve the Problem CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3. The installation sequence should start automatically – follow the on-screen instructions.
If the software does not install automatically:

RM Community Connect 3 Network Install:

1. On a clean build workstation, navigate to "Q:\Applications" and create a suitably named folder, eg "Abacus Evolve STP YR1"

2. Navigate to your "W" drive and create a suitably named folder for the progress screenshot files to be written to. This needs to have modify permissions for all potential users.

3. On your clean build workstation run Veritas Discover to take the before snapshot of your system. The install path for the msi should be  "Q:\Applications\Abacus Evolve STP YR1" if you have used the example name above.

4. Once this is finished, insert the Abacus Evolve CD in the CD drive and, if it autoruns, click cancel.

5. From your Veritas Discover interface click finish and it will ask you to navigate to the setup for the product. Navigate to "setup.exe" on the CD and run the installation.

6. Use the default path for the installation which is C:\Program Files\Abacus Evolve Pupils.

7. The installation will then ask for the path for the progress files. This should be to the folder previously set up on your "W" drive in step 2 above.

8. Once the installation has finished, run Veritas Discover again to perform the "after" snapshot.

9. Once the msi has been created, navigate to "C:\Program Files\Abacus Evolve pupils" on the build machine and create a shortcut to AE activities.exe. This shortcut should then be copied to "Q:\Applications\Abacus Evolve STP YR1\Shortcuts\Abacus Evolve STP YR1".

10. The product can then be allocated to workstations / users as a package using the RM Management Console in the usual manner.

Note: The network location for the Saved Activities screenshots must be a mapped drive.
