PC Network Install:
Part 1: Content Install
1. Start the network server.
2. Insert the Abacus Evolve Individual Practice multi-user CD in the network CD-ROM drive.
3. If the software autoruns, follow on-screen instructions.
4. If the software doesn't autorun, select the My Computer icon on the server Windows desktop.
5. Right-click on the server CD-ROM drive icon and select open from the drop-down menu.
6. Double-click on the 'setup' file and follow the on-screen instructions.
7. You will be asked to choose a folder on which to install the software. Click Browse to find the folder on your network. Please ensure that this folder is shared and is accessible by all users of the Abacus Evolve Individual Practice Software. You will need to be able to find this folder again for part 2 of the installation, so it may be helpful to make a note of the location you chose. When you have selected your folder, the software will appear in [yourfoldername]\Ginn folder.
Next you need to install the 'client files' on each computer that will use the software.
Part 2: Client Install
Carry out the following steps on each computer that is to use the software:
1. Open the folder in which you put the Abacus Evolve Individual Practice Software content files.
2. Double-click on the 'Client Install' icon.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions. On screen 3 of the Client Install program, you have 2 options:
-
Option 1 allows you to copy only the client files on each computer that will use the software.
Note: Option 1 allows you to copy only the client files onto each computer (9 MB). The content files and the pupil records will be shared by all and located on Computer 1. Not having the content files on each of the computers that will use the software may cause the software to run slowly.
-
Option 2 allows you to copy both the client files and the content files onto each computer (100 MB). The pupil records will be shared by all and located on computer 1. This option has the benefit of using the full speed of each computer but still works as one network product.
4. To run the software, click on the Abacus Evolve Individual Practice icon in the 'Ginn' folder of the programs menu or double-click on the icon found on your desktop.
For best results, close down all other software before using Abacus Evolve Individual Practice Software. If you encounter problems running the software (e.g. running slowly), these are likely to be due to lack of memory. Re-start your machine and start the software again.

RM CC3 Network Install:
(a) What you need
1. To install this software on an RM CC3 network, you will need to use:
-
A copy of the multi-user/network CD and licence
-
Windows Explorer - to access the various drives on your system
-
VERITAS DISCOVER software - to create an MSI
-
RM Management Console - to allocate packages to specific users and workstations.
(b) Install Part 1
2. Log onto the Connect 3 terminal using 'systemadmin' as the username and then type your password. Then insert the Abacus Evolve CD.
3. Using Windows Explorer, go to your CD drive and click on the 'setup.exe' file to run part 1 of the installer. On screen 3 you are asked where you want to install the files. Choose a destination drive and folder for the installation of the content files from the CD. The full path will be displayed (for example: 'W:\Abacus Evolve\Abacus Evolve Disc 1'). Click Install. This may take up a while depending on the speed and specific set-up of your server.
(c) Building the MSI Package
4. Use Windows Explorer to access the Q drive. Create a new folder for the MSI to be stored. It is a good idea to create a folder name to match the CD name; this will be created in the following directory-> Q:\Applications\[MyFolderName]
5. Select the VERITAS Discover program from the start menu. You are asked to specify the name of the application that you are building the installation for. For this example we will use 'Abacus Evolve 1'. This is the name that the system will use (it can be any other name you choose). In the second field, you are asked to insert the path of the MSI-> Q:\Applications\[MyFolderName]\[MyFileName].msi.
6. Select which drive VERITAS DISCOVER should scan before and after installation (this should usually be drive C). Once the scan has completed the snap shot before installation, VERITAS asks you to locate the installer executable. This will be located in the same destination drive and folder as 3 above. For this example we will use 'W:\Abacus Evolve\Abacus Evolve Disc 1\ClientInstall.exe'.
(d) Install Part 2
7. Double-click on 'ClientInstall.exe'. This will launch part 2 of the installation process. Part 2 (the client files) needs to be installed on the C drive. On screen 3, Choose the default path and select option 1. Click Install. After a few seconds, the installation should be completed.
8. Select the VERITAS Discover program from the start menu again. VERITAS will launch a window on the screen informing you that an 'after' snap shot of the system is about to be taken. Click Next. When the snap shot is complete, VERITAS tells you that an MSI has been created in -> Q:\Applications\[MyFolderName]\[MyFileName].msi.
(e) Creating Shortcuts
9. Now you must create the shortcuts required to use your newly created package. These must be placed within the following directory structure: Q:\Applications\[MyFolderName]\Shortcuts\[MyFolderName]\
10. You should also add a shortcut to the shortcut bank under 'X:\Group Resources\Shortcut Bank'. Simply copy the shortcut for this application from Q:\Applications\[MyFolderName]\Program Files\ Abacus Evolve\Abacus Evolve Disc 1\Abacus Evolve Disc 1.exe.
(f) RM Management Console
11. Once the MSI is created, the RM management Console can be used to update the package list and then allocate the packages to the appropriate workstations and users. (For further information, please consult your network administrator and/or technical support documentation.) Using Windows Explorer, go to your CD drive and click on the 'setup.exe' file to run part 1 of the installer.

How to assign activities in order?
With the Abacus Evolve Individual Practice Software, activities can be assigned to each individual pupil to complete. The pupils will complete the activities in the order that they appear in the grid.
Example:
If Activity 5b and 9b are assigned to pupil 'Test' then they will need to complete activity 5b before they can process to 9b. Once the activity is completed a tick will appear in the blue circle.
There may be instances were activity 9b will need to be completed before 5b. For this please only assign activity 9b. Once the pupil has completed the activity and the tick has appeared then assign activity 5b.
Please also be aware that if a pupil does not complete the activity during that class period, they next time they login it will start from the beginning of the uncompleted activity. Therefore please only assign the activities that are required for the particular lesson taking place.

Remove the password option?
Within the Options settings under the pupil section the 'Require Password To Progress' box has been un-ticked, but the password box keeps appearing.
This option within the Teacher section controls whether a pupil will be prompted for a password when they move onto the next question in the same game.
When a pupil quits an activity before completing it the password box appears so the teacher is aware that the pupil has not completed the activity set.
Unfortunately it was decided through user testing that the teacher password prompt field cannot be removed or disabled.
