"Error: 1608 Unable to create installDriver instance, return code: -2147319784"

Symptom(s):

When trying to install the Interactive Teaching Resources, the below error message keeps appearing?

"Error: 1608 Unable to create installDriver instance, return code: -2147319784"

Cause:

Error 1608 is a very system specific issue and is often caused by limited system privileges, incorrect DCOM settings, or another malfunction on the computer. Below are possible resolutions that have been known to resolve this issue in the past. Depending on your system, you may need to try some or all of the listed solutions.

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error, would be if the teacher logging onto the computer did not have 'administrative privileges' at that particular machine. This would block the installation of this particular software package from installing correctly. I would first suggest that you ensure you definitely have administrative privileges and then try the installation again. Once this has been confirmed, please check the following:

Please visit the following website and download and install the Windows Installer 3.1 Re-distributable. This file helps power the installation and is the latest version, so should correct any problems with the computer's ability to install our software:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en

If neither of the above steps work, please refer to the following web page for further suggestions:

"Error: The installation was interrupted before it was complete"

Symptom(s):

This error message appears when running the installation:

"The installation was interrupted before it was complete. Please try again later if you wish to complete the installation"

Cause:

We have found that this problem effects Norton Antivirus (SystemWorks) users. Norton AntiVirus understandably has a very rigid security policy and if "Auto Detect" is switched on it may block the installation.

Resolution:

Please turn any Antivirus software off temporarily whilst installing the software
With "Auto Detect" switched on Norton Anti-Virus will scan software installs automatically and interrupt them (if it thinks it finds malicious scripts). With "Auto Detect" switched off, the software will successful install. Please remember to switch back on the Antivirus software to ensure the computer remains fully protected from viruses.

Note: All installs and technical solutions are entered into at the owners risk.

Easiteach is running in 'Demo' mode and is prompting for a serial number and a key?

Symptom(s):

When loading Easiteach from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut, the software prompts for a Serial Number and Key (as shown below) and states in large letters 'Demo'.

Easiteach demo mode

Cause:

This software is installed in 2 parts, firstly Easiteach is installed, then secondly, the Abacus Evolve ITR content is installed.

When Easiteach is first installed, it is only registered to work in 'Demo Mode', it is only when the Abacus Evolve ITR content is installed that Easiteach will be registered for full use. Therefore, if this error is showing, it is likely that the Abacus Evolve ITR content has not been completely installed.

If you mistakenly remove the CD or otherwise abort the install after the Easiteach installation, but before our product installation has run, then Easiteach will be in demo mode until our product installer has run.

Resolution:

Simply reinsert the 'Abacus Evolve ITR' CD-ROM and run the setup again, allowing the installer to copy the content to the workstation. This will register Easiteach 'behind the scenes'. Once this has completed, Easiteach will run without being prompted for the serial number and key.

Easiteach must be installed at each workstation, it cannot be held and run from a server. As with all software installations, please ensure this procedure is carried out whilst logged into the machine with Administrator privileges.

Missing ITR resource A1.c?

Symptom(s):

ITR Framework Edition Year 3 Only:

When using the I-Planner Year 3, Week 2, day 3 it makes reference to using resource A1.c, but when accessing the ITR this file is missing?

Cause:

Unfortunately this is a printing error and has only been brought to our attention after the software was published.

Resolution:

The file A1.c is actually contained in another document and it is a printing error within the I-Planner. The A1.c file can be found in A1.d.

A1.d file contains 9 slides. The first slide is the menu for A1.d Day 3 - But this is the activity indicated by 'A1.c, and the second slide is the menu for A1.d Day 5. Slides 3-5 are for Day 3, and slides 6-9 are for day 5.

Will the ITR work on Microsoft Windows Vista?

The install instructions state that the I-Planner needs to be installed before the ITR, so due to the I-Planner not being compatible with Windows Vista does this also mean the ITR will not install?

There is a work around for this as the ITR is compatible to run on Windows Vista, but due to the complexity of this resolution our Software Support Team will need to be contacted on the below details.
