Freestyle and Freestyle Express: Turbulent Planet

Turbulent Planet looks at extreme, dangerous or problematic aspects of the shaping of the earth's surface, such as erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes and wild fires. Each title examines the causes and effects of each event, how the damage could have been reduced or prevented, and precautions readers could take should they find themselves in one of these situations.

The series:

  • describes the events, the aftermath and changes to the Earth's crust and what has been learnt as a result of these natural disasters
  • covers how society and organisations predict and deal with these dangerous situations
  • contains clear and logical page sequences to enable lower ability readers to follow the text without confusion
  • includes different text types throughout in the form of reports, diaries, quotations and newspaper articles.

The Freestyle Express series runs parallel to the Freestyle series, using simplified, levelled text and an attractive layout with a clear sequence, making it easy for the less confident reader to follow.

  • Designed for 11-15 year old pupils with a reading age of 8 years.
  • Incorporates a lowered text level that allows struggling readers to access and understand the curriculum basics.
  • Can be used in the classroom or library in conjunction with the Freestyle version.
